Jae Soto is the solo moniker of Brooklyn-based vocalist and producer Justina Soto. Initially trained as a vocalist, she studied modern production independently, and later developed into a self-described “computer musician”.
Influenced by artists like Japanese producer Haruomi Hosono, American composers like John Cage and Steve Reich, and 80s synth-pop icons, she often uses a blend of experimental micro-sampling, multi-fx hardware, and synthesis to transform her sounds. While creating, Soto listens to her surroundings and places those abstractions into a familiar context, often using topically diverse lyrics and delivering a sardonic yet holistic view of her experiences.
